Lucky Strike: A Fresh Approach to Form and Color
MILL Contemporary is pleased to announce LUCKY STRIKE, an exhibition that showcases the artworks of Howard Sherman, Ruben Aguirre and Michael Cutlip,3 contemporary artists with their own unique approach to form and color. The exhibition will take place June 2-24, 2017, with an opening reception on Friday, June 2nd, from 5-7 pm.
Howard Sherman has been leading a new generation of bombastic contemporary painters in the Texas art world. Sherman’s cartoonish figuration complements his bold use of abstract mark making. His new works on paper are collaged pieces of older works that create their own dynamic statement with an aggressive use of color and a playful sense of humor.
Ruben Aguirre is a Chicago based painter who has transitioned from graffiti to abstract painter/contemporary muralist. Aguirre’s work is an intersection of abstract graffiti, design, and contemporary muralism. He brings the bold, lyrical design of his public murals into his studio with combinations of latex, wood and paper.
Michael Cutlip is a multimedia artist with a self-proclaimed obsession with paper. Based in Berkeley, he draws on the raw energy of urban life when crafting his mixed media works. Mixing found paper and paint on panels, the artist creates abstract compositions that highlight the juxtaposition of color, form and texture.
The exhibition runs through July 22nd.
