ELEMENTAL ABSTRACTION

MILL Contemporary, 702 ½ Canyon Road, Santa Fe NM

MILL Contemporary is located in Gypsy Alley on Canyon Road in Santa Fe

MILL Contemporary is pleased to announce ELEMENTAL ABSTRACTION, an exhibition that showcases the artworks of Suzanne Kammin, Jim Nickel and Ky Anderson. The exhibition will take place September 1st – 30th, 2017, with an opening reception on Friday, September 1st, from 5-7 pm.

Suzanne Kammin’s paintings navigate the relationship between figure and ground and the inner and outer self through the juxtaposition of hard and soft edges and the meeting of intense color combinations. The paintings allude to things of this world but what these things are cannot be pinned down. The content can be interpreted in as many ways as there are viewers.

Jim Nickel’s sculptures involve the conservation of found material in a reconfigured form.  The codifying of daily life is reflected in the duality of the black and white patterns in his sculptures (also recalling the vividness of black-white photography) and in the preservation and reformatting of the given wood material.

Brooklyn-based Ky Anderson creates paintings that are marked by explorations of balance and form. Her works straddle the line between abstract and representational art. Anderson's use of colored washes, layered forms, and line work illustrate a personal narrative of memories and experiences.

The exhibition runs through September 30th.
